FOOD SAFETY AND STANDARDS AUTHORITY OF INDIA (FSSAI) CERTIFICATION

Who Needs To Register For FSSAI ?
The following categories of food businesses must register for FSSAI:
Retailers: Petty retailers, retail shops, snack shops, confectionery, and bakery shops.
Food Stalls & Premises: Temporary and fixed stalls, as well as food premises involved in food preparation, storage, distribution, and sale.
Street Food Vendors: Hawkers selling packaged or freshly prepared food.
Dairy Businesses: Dairy units, including milk chilling units, petty milkmen, and milk vendors.
Processing Units: Slaughterhouses, fish and meat processing units, and vegetable oil processing units.
Food Manufacturing: Food manufacturing units, including repackaging and processing of food products.
Proprietary and Novel Food: Businesses dealing in proprietary and novel food products.
Storage Facilities: Cold and refrigerated storage facilities.
Food Transporters: Transporters of food products using specialized vehicles such as refrigerated vans, milk tankers, and food trucks.
Wholesalers & Distributors: Wholesalers, suppliers, distributors, and marketers of food products.
Food Establishments: Hotels, restaurants, bars, canteens, cafeterias, mid-day meal providers, dhabas, PGs, banquet halls, and home-based canteens.
Catering & Vending: Food vending agencies, caterers, and food stalls at fairs/religious institutions.
Importers and Exporters: Businesses engaged in the import and export of food items and ingredients.
E-commerce Suppliers: E-commerce platforms supplying food, including cloud kitchens.
Difference Between FSSAI Registration and FSSAI License:
Turnover Limit: Applicable for businesses with annual turnover up to ₹12 lakh
Types: Basic Regsitration
Size of Business: Small food businesses or petty food operators
Duration: Dependent on the registration type
Application: Form A
Publication: FSSAI registration number must be displayed on the premises and product packaging
Turnover Limit: Applicable for businesses with annual turnover above ₹12 lakh
Types: FSSAI Central License or FSSAI State License
Size of Business: Medium to large-sized food businesses
Duration: Valid for 1 to 5 years
Application: Form B
Publication: FSSAI license number must be displayed on product packaging, especially for exporters, importers, and manufacturers
